OEM Brake Pads

Brake pads are parts of the disc brake in your vehicle that come in pairs for each wheel. They’re made of a metallic backing plate with a friction material bonded or riveted into them. When you apply the brakes in your vehicle, the brake caliper causes the pads to squeeze a rotating disc. The resulting friction slows or stops your vehicle and generates extreme heat. Over time, the friction material thins out until it reaches a level wherein you must replace it.
Average Lifespan of Brake Pads
On average, brake pads last between 30,000 to 70,000 miles. Some bad braking habits cause the pads to wear out prematurely. An example is when you ride your brakes, that is, when you don’t fully release the brake pedal when you drive on low speeds. This practice causes the pads to overheat.
Should You Replace All Your Brake Pads at Once?
For better braking balance, you should replace your brake pads on both wheels of the same axle. For some vehicle models, the brake pads on the rear wheels are thinner so you can replace all pads in one maintenance service.
How Long Can You Drive on a Bad Brake Pad?
If you suspect that the brake pads in your vehicle are faulty, replace them immediately. Driving with bad brake pads is a safety risk and causes needless damage to other brake parts.
